EarthMC Basics
EarthMC uses a 1:1000 scale map of Earth with Towny for land claiming and nations for grouped towns. Gold is the premium currency — earned through voting, selling items, and town activities.
New players spawn in a random location. Use /rtp or walk to find unclaimed land. Read /nation and /town help before spending gold.
Creating Your First Town
A town is the foundation — you need one before founding a nation.
Gather founding gold
Check current town creation cost with /town new. Vote daily on server lists for gold bonuses. Farm basic resources and sell at spawn shops.
Pick strategic land
Unclaimed coastal or resource-rich areas are ideal. Avoid nesting inside existing superpowers unless you want vassal status. Check /towny map for nearby nations.
Found the town
Stand in your chosen plot and run /town new [name]. Invite trusted friends immediately — town member count affects strength and gold generation.
Claim surrounding chunks
Use /town claim to expand. Each claim costs gold. Prioritize enclosing your core build area before expanding outward.
Gold Income Walkthrough
Gold funds claims, nation creation, and war costs.
Vote daily
EarthMC vote links give the most reliable free gold. Set a daily reminder — missing votes slows progression significantly.
Build a shop at spawn
If you have a spawn plot or shop rental, sell bulk resources (logs, stone, food). Undercut competition slightly for fast turnover.
Run town activities
Some towns tax residents or run group mining ops. Contribute to town gold reserves — nations require a treasury minimum.
Founding a Nation
Once your town is stable and you have enough gold, upgrade to a nation.
Meet nation requirements
Typically requires a minimum town population, gold reserve, and sometimes a capital town name. Check /nation new requirements on your version.
Choose a capital location
Your capital town becomes the nation anchor. Pick defensible terrain — mountains and oceans slow invaders.
Invite ally towns
Nations grow by inviting other mayors. Offer protection, shared trade routes, or gold incentives. Start with 2–3 trusted towns before recruiting strangers.
Set nation color and spawn
Nation map color helps allies identify territory on /towny map. Set a nation spawn for quick rally points during conflicts.
Diplomacy and Alliances
EarthMC geopolitics is player-driven. Join the Discord and forum to negotiate non-aggression pacts (NAPs), alliances, and trade agreements.
Small nations survive by allying with mid-tier powers against expansionist superpowers. Never pick fights with top-10 nations until you have allied backup and a gold war chest.
Surviving Your First War
Towny wars let nations siege enemy towns. If attacked:
Rally defenders
Ping nation members on Discord. Defenders must be online during siege windows — offline towns lose chunks.
Protect your gold
Withdraw nation gold to trusted members before siege if rules allow. Losing a siege can bankrupt a young nation.
Negotiate peace
Most wars end in white peace or small concessions. Pride-fighting until zero claims hurts both sides — offer reparations if needed to preserve your nation.
Growing Your Nation
Recruit active mayors, not empty towns. Run nation events (build competitions, group mining) to retain members. Expand claims methodically — overclaiming spreads gold thin and invites border conflicts.
Document your nation's history on the EarthMC wiki. Recognition attracts recruits and trade partners.
