FTB Skies Quest Progression Walkthrough

Using the Quest Book

Press the quest book key (default: backtick or check controls) on first spawn. FTB Skies gates nearly everything behind quests — skipping chapters creates gear and material bottlenecks.

Pin active quests to your HUD. Claim rewards immediately; many give items that are tedious to craft manually. Team islands share quest progress on most servers.

Chapter 1: Create Sifting

Your first major milestone is automated sifting for ores and gems.

   Complete starter tool quests

   Finish the opening chapter for basic tools, sieving mesh, and cobblestone generation. Expand your island platform before building machines — falling into the void loses inventory.

2. 2

   Build a manual sifter first

   Craft an Andesite Mesh and sieve gravel/sand/dust by hand. Learn what each material yields before automating.

3. 3

   Automate with Create

   Add a water wheel, mechanical press, and belt system. Funnels pull sifted output into chests. Quests walk you through each component — follow them linearly.

   Upgrade meshes

   Iron, gold, and diamond meshes unlock better drops. Do not skip mesh upgrades — they gate access to rare materials needed for mid-game quests.

Sky Village Exploration

The Eye of Legend quest introduces floating structures with bartering loot.

   Craft the Eye of Legend

   Complete the exploration quest line for the recipe. This item scans for nearby sky villages and loot islands.

2. 2

   Prepare for void travel

   Bring blocks, food, and a way to bridge back. Elytra comes much later — early exploration is manual bridging from your island.

3. 3

   Loot and barter

   Sky villages offer quest items, enchanted gear, and materials that skip hours of sifting. Mark coordinates with waypoints if your pack includes them.

Refined Storage Milestone

Storage is the first major quality-of-life unlock.

   Craft Controller + Disk Drive

   Quest rewards often include RS components. Start with 1k storage disks — you will fill them faster than expected.

2. 2

   Connect sifter outputs

   Place importers on automation chests. Everything routes to one grid — no more sorting six chests manually.

3. 3

   Add Wireless Grid

   Craft a Wireless Grid for remote access. Essential when your island spans multiple platforms.

Mekanism Ore Processing

After sifting is stable, quests introduce Mekanism for ore doubling and tripling.

   Build a Heat Generator

   Early Mekanism power from burnables or lava. Connect with Universal Cables to your first Enrichment Chamber.

2. 2

   Double then triple ores

   Enrichment Chamber → Purification Chamber → Crusher chain triples ore output. This is the highest ROI tech investment in FTB Skies.

3. 3

   Buffer energy

   Basic Energy Cubes prevent machine stalls. Scale power before adding more machines — brownouts waste processing time.

Botania and Elemental Craft

FTB Skies offers parallel magic quest lines after mid-game tech is running. Botania provides mana generation and automation tricks. Elemental Craft adds elemental infusions for advanced crafting.

Do not start magic until sifting, storage, and basic power are automated — splitting focus early is the most common progression mistake.

Server and Team Tips

On hosted servers, chunk-claim your machine area. Split roles: one player quests through Create, one explores sky villages, one manages storage.
